Low temperatures were set to reach 40 degrees over the weekend in the area. Meanwhile, 3 million Californians awoke Friday morning to a winter storm warning stemming from the storm that first rolled into the Golden State the day before, leaving more than 100,000 customers without electricity.

As much as 5 feet of snow may fall in some mountains near Los Angeles, creating whiteout conditions as winds gust to 75 mph. The conditions raise the risk of avalanches, according to forecasters.

Heavy snow wasn't the only concern in California. Forecasters say they're worried about torrential rain leading to flash flooding in downtown LA, where parts of the city are expecting up to 8 inches of rain.

  • Do not go outside until it has been declared safe

  • Leave and do not enter any buildings that have structural Damage
  • Do not go near damaged trees or any dangling or broken limbs
  • If you smell gas, turn the gas off at the meter

How To Restore Flooded Loma Linda Living Rooms

Sometimes water loss incidents and flooding can affect certain rooms or areas of your Loma Linda home more than others. While we have effective mitigation and recovery solutions for all of the effects that could result from widespread flooding scenarios, every situation is unique regarding what equipment, practices, and personnel are necessary to restore the damage. When flooding affects your living room area, certain tasks must happen right away to prevent the situation from getting out of control.

Flood damage that can affect your Loma Linda home can often arrive in layers of destructive effects that must get addressed in a particular order to protect as much of the property as possible. The saturation of flooring and carpeting materials can often be among the most challenging to address without ultimately needing to remove these materials altogether. Our SERVPRO professionals can work to begin extraction and drying of these damaged areas from the time that we first arrive, working around the clock to prevent unnecessary tear our and reconstruction.

Our contents department can work alongside our estimator to determine what items and personal belongings have gotten too affected by the flooding to remain. With our roster of qualified cleaning and restoration technicians with accreditations from the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC), we can offer focused cleaning, drying, and storage of these items in a climate-controlled facility of ours nearby.

Among the worst affected materials in a living room is carpeting. Floodwater can not only damage this upper layer but also penetrate subflooring and even structural supports. Weighted extractors can force moisture and saturation from these areas to get removed with a high-powered onboard vacuum. In cases of extreme saturation or where contamination could exist, we remove this flooring and subflooring, disinfect the area, and have our SERVPRO technicians reinstall new flooring in its place.

Flooding can be a damaging force in your home, and these effects only get worse the longer you wait for qualified restoration. Give our SERVPRO of Colton / Loma Linda / Grand Terrace team a call at (909) 514-1900 to make this loss incident “Like it never even happened.”

Secondary Issues Resulting From Flooding in Colton

4/26/2019 (Permalink)

Flooding causes not only water damage, but also mold damage if not remediated quickly.

When Flood Damage is Not the Only Problem in a Colton Home

Imagine you were on vacation, flood damage to your home might be the furthermost thing from your mind. You have someone checking on the house, making sure Alexa turns the lights off and on and the home security system is on. What could go wrong?

Sunny weather prevails in Colton, but flood damage is a real threat from the intense storms this area experiences. A homeowner contacted SERVPRO after returning home late one night from several days away to a strong odor when he entered his home and found the cause. During storm days earlier, a tree limb had broken a window and rain had poured into a downstairs bedroom window.

SERVPRO arrived quickly after the call and immediately tarped over the hole in the window to stop any further damage from happening. Because the water had been sitting in the room for at last 48 hours, we treated it as a Category 3, black water situation which means the water could now contain bacteria or toxins that are hazardous.

We removed area rugs that had absorbed the rainwater were a large part of the odor in the room for cleaning and disinfection in our facility. The mattress was a loss and with the homeowner's permission was removed. The steel bedframe was unaffected as was the tile flooring and subfloor. Moisture detectors showed the moisture on the surface of the wall and elevated levels throughout the room.

Before drying, SERVPRO techs determine drying goals based on other readings in affected areas of the home. Air movers were set up to direct the moisture up where it captured by our desiccant dehumidifiers. Once we confirmed the bedroom as hitting drying goals, our technicians cleaned and disinfected all affected surfaces to ensure the room was sanitary which also neutralized the residual odor remaining in the room. The homeowner was pleased to find out our location offers building services, and after remediation of the water damage, we could also perform the necessary repairs on the window.

SERVPRO of Colton / Loma Linda / Grand Terrace is available at (909) 514-1900 when you need us. Our certified technicians arrive within hours and can handle any size flood damage situation and make it "Like it never even happened."
