About Commercial Water Damage

Commercial property water damage is an unfortunate, but not uncommon event. It can stop business operations, put the health of you and your occupants at risk, and can cause extensive property damage.

Water damage to commercial buildings is often far more extensive than in residential buildings, given the size and complexity of the mechanical systems in commercial or industrial properties.

Commercial buildings typically have larger structures, more people and employees, and have more potentially expensive equipment than homes. Fortunately, business owners can find water damage early on and its impacts can be mitigated.

 Commercial Water Damage:

Many businesses suffer costly losses caused by water leaks. Water can be very destructive whether it seeps from a loose fitting or gushes from a ruptured main. While the standard commercial property policy excludes many water-related losses, it does cover damage caused by the typical burst pipe.

Failure of older plumbing systems and improperly maintained sprinkler systems can result in significant damage to property and interruption of business operations.

Plumbing Leaks

Plumbing leaks are a very common source of commercial water damage. Leaks occur when pipes burst, appliance hoses rupture or fire-suppression sprinkler systems activate after fire and douse the building in water.

In freezing temperatures, pipes can also spontaneously leak due to frozen water passage. Burst pipes are often hard to spot—they aren’t as obvious from the surface and may not cause pools of open standing water.

Telltale signs of plumbing leaks are water stains near piped areas or musty smells developing. Sometimes standing water will collect causing drips from the ceiling or pools of water on the floor.

In many cases, commercial property insurance can cover the cost of sudden pipe bursts, faulty appliances or water damage from sprinkler systems due to property fire.

6 Most Common Causes of Water Damage in the Kitchen

Water is essential to cooking and cleaning in the kitchen. But water, in large amounts and in the wrong areas, can lead to disastrous cases of water damage. Homeowners can prevent minor and major water damage in the kitchen by knowing its various causes.

A functional and often-utilized kitchen is filled with water damage hazards. Water boiling in a pot or from a drinking glass can spill. Soups simmering on the stove can splash. When left unaddressed, the liquids’ prolonged contact with surfaces can lead to water damage.

Kitchen appliances, too, can be a source of water damage. The refrigerator might spring a leak. The kitchen sink faucets can leak when its parts become worn over time. The dishwasher, as any other appliance, can malfunction and spew water onto the kitchen flooring.

Significant water damage, such as from a leaky dishwasher, will be readily apparent. In such cases, the water damage can be repaired right away. However, the water damage may be so minor that it is unnoticeable. Minor water damage can develop into a major problem later on.

Year-to-year, the severity and frequency of bad weather is anyone’s guess. But, inevitably, a lot of homeowners end up dealing with property damage as a result of storms.

The most common type of property damage we see is roof and siding damage following heavy winds and/or hail.

If your home is damaged in a storm, you might be feeling very overwhelmed and not even sure where to start, and a storm can cause so much damage, such as knocking hydro wires down, or fallen trees landing on your fence, roof or car. After the wind has gone, you need to walk the exterior of your home to get an idea of the Damage done and to make sure your home is still safe to live in.

Below are some tips to help you after a storm has damaged your home:

    • Listen to advisories and other instructions
    • Do not go outside until it has been declared safe
    • Don’t go near downed power lines, and avoid any standing water or metal objects that are near any downed wires
    • Leave and do not enter any buildings that have structural Damage
    • Do not go near damaged trees or any dangling or broken limbs
    • If you smell gas, turn the gas off at the meter

    Mold Remediation

    12/10/2021 (Permalink)

Mold will grow where there is moisture, such as around leaks in roofs, windows, or pipes, or where there has been a flood. Mold grows on paper, cardboard, ceiling tiles, and wood. Mold can also grow in dust, paints, wallpaper, insulation, drywall, carpet, fabric, and upholstery.

There is always some mold around. Molds have been on the Earth for millions of years. Mold can get in your home through open doors, windows, vents, and heating and air conditioning systems. Mold in the air outside can be brought indoors on clothing, shoes, bags, and even pets.

How common is mold in buildings?

    • Molds are very common in buildings and homes. Mold will grow in places with a lot of moisture, such as around leaks in roofs, windows, or pipes, or where there has been flooding. Mold grows well on paper products, cardboard, ceiling tiles, and wood products. Mold can also grow in dust, paints, wallpaper, insulation, drywall, carpet, fabric, and upholstery.
    • The most common indoor molds are CladosporiumPenicillium, and Aspergillus.  We do not have precise information about how often different molds are found in buildings and homes.

    • Keep the house dry -- don't let water build up anywhere, ventilate damp rooms, wipe shower walls and doors after use.
    • Don't leave wet clothes in the washing machine where mold can quickly grow.
    • Wash shower curtains and bathroom tiles regularly with mold-killing products.
    • Don't have too many indoor plants -- especially in the bedroom -- as mold can grow in plant soil.
    • Fix any leaks or seepage in the house, indoors and out.
    • Put plastic over dirt in crawlspaces and keep them well ventilated.
    • Use exhaust fans in the kitchen and bathrooms.
    • Turn off humidifiers if you see condensation on windows.
    • Use dehumidifiers and air conditioners in basements and other areas of the house where mold tends to grow, especially in hot humid climates.
    • Clean dehumidifiers and humidifiers every week.
    • On concrete floors, remove carpet and use area rugs that can be lifted and washed, or install a vapor barrier over the concrete.

    • Step 1: Emergency Contact
    • Step 2: Inspection and Mold Damage Assessment
    • Step 3: Mold Containment
    • Step 4: Air Filtration

    Understanding Water Damage: Contamination

There are two main categories of water damage. The most common water damage issues are caused by plumbing and appliance issues, and less common are weather-related events such as rain, snow, or pipes burst due to freezing temperatures. The kind of water that’s leaked into your home is even more critical to understand when assessing water damage and the expense.

    • Category 1, known as white water: originates from a hygienic source such as a water supply line, rainwater or melted snow.
    • Category 2, known as grey water: has been exposed to contaminants, such as bath or shower water, discharge from a washing machine or dishwasher, aquariums, etc.
    • Category 3, known as black water: dangerous and may contain pathogenic or toxigenic contaminants from sources like sewage, toilet backflows, seawater, river or lake water, and water containing toxic substances.

    <h4of-water-damage">Causes of Water Damage

Hidden water leaks can be a nightmare to diagnose and find, and time is of the essence. The signs may not be apparent right away. It’s critical to track down the leak as soon as water leakage is suspected, and the property owner or manager will likely need to hire a plumber to find and diagnose the problem. Common causes of water damage include:

    • Malfunctioning plumbing fixtures such as toilet
    • Malfunctioning appliances such as water heater blowing up
    • Mold or mildew in a bathroom or kitchen that returns even after being cleaned
    • Stained ceilings may indicate water in floors or walls
    • Blistering paint and cracking walls
    • Water pooling on floor, buckling or cupped wood floors (especially in a slab-foundation home)
    • Old supply hoses on your washing machine- these fail between 8-9 years and will allow water to pour into your home
    • Dry rot in wooden components of structure
    • Water build-up
    • Sudden increase in water bill
    • Clogged gutters
    • Leaking, blocked, or burst pipes
        • Freezing
        • Corrosion
        • Tree roots
        • Pressure due to blocked garbage disposal or other appliance

    Mold Remediation

    7/28/2021 (Permalink)

Mold in homes causes numerous problems. House mold problemsgo beyond an unpleasant smell or unsightly stains on carpets, walls or ceilings. No one wants those things in their home. Mold also contributes to a number of health problems, some quite serious.

Health issues due to mold problems include:

    • Respiratory problems
    • Asthma attacks
    • Chronic sinus infections
    • Sore throats
    • Runny noses
    • Watery eyes
    • Coughing

Mold can be absorbed by clothing in a few ways. Either the fabric becomes infected with mold, or it comes in contact with other moldy clothes.

Cleaning up mold in homes poses many problems. If you don’t get it all, any health problems you’re experiencing will continue or even get worse. Cleaning mold from your shower tiles may be fairly easy, but cleaning mold from porous surfaces like wooden wall studs, insulation, carpeting and drywall is much more difficult. Some surfaces cannot be cleaned and must be removed and replaced instead.

Any home or business can quickly become infested with mold with the introduction of a water source, like a roof or plumbing leak. Mold can spread throughout a property in as little as 48-72 hours, and can produce allergens and irritants that have the potential to cause other health effects.

If you suspect that your home or business has a mold problem, SERVPRO Franchise Professionals can inspect and assess your property. If mold is found, they have the training, equipment, and expertise to handle the situation.

    Heat Wave/Wild Fire Damage

    7/1/2021 (Permalink)

Residents in several states have been ordered to evacuate due to wildfires as blistering, record breaking heat wave and extreme drought presist in the western United States.

At least 28 large fires are burning over more than 640 square miles in eight western states, according to the National Interagency Fire Center.

For many heat waves, there are also important feedbacks that come into play that amplify drought and heat and set the stage for wildfires. There is a direct local contribution to the drying and high temperatures in the absence of evaporative cooling. While heat waves with high humidity are oppressive and give no relief at night, heat waves often form in association with drought.

There are methods for homeowners to prepare their homes to withstand ember attacks and minimize the likelihood of flames or surface fire touching the home or any attachments. Experiments, models and post-fire studies have shown homes ignite due to the condition of the home and everything around it, up to 200’ from the foundation.

Fires can be especially devastating to your home or business. After the fire trucks leave, your property will likely suffer from not only fire and smoke damage, but also widespread water damage and flooding from firefighting efforts. SERVPRO Franchise Professionals have specialized fire and water damage restoration training and experience to quickly clean up and restore your home to pre-fire condition. They also can remove the pervasive smoke odor and deep-clean soot from upholstery and carpet.

    Flood Damage

    4/8/2021 (Permalink)

Flooding is a temporary overflow of water onto land that is normally dry. Floods are the most common natural disaster in the United States. Failing to evacuate flooded areas or entering flood waters can lead to injury or death.

    Floods may:

    • Result from rain, snow, coastal storms, storm surges and overflows of dams and other water systems.
    • Develop slowly or quickly. Flash floods can come with no warning.
    • Cause outages, disrupt transportation, damage buildings and create landslides.

Fast Melting Snow is one of the top causes for commercial flooding. You experience moderate rainfall in the spring. A nearby stream overflows from rainfall, flowing into your place of business and causes flood damage. Your business basement floods from construction runoff next to your building and damages equipment and inventory.

Faulty or leaky appliances, burst pipes, and damages that are not repaired promptly are all common causes of flooding. The low laying areas in your home such as foundation or basement are often more susceptible to flooding.

    Flood Damage Repair

Damage by a flood is one of the most common forms of property damage. if not treated immediately, flood damage has the potential to escalate into a serious emergency. Mold can develop within 24 to 48 hours after a flood.

    Water Heater Leaks

    2/19/2021 (Permalink)

Many things can cause water heaters to leak, but there are 6 common reasons why they do.

Your water heater is an efficient, self-contained system. Cold and hot water enters and leaves the tank through inlet and outlet pipes on top of the unit. An electrical component or gas flame heats the water to a desired temperature. The heated water rises to the top of the tank where it remains until you turn on a hot water tap.

These are common problems that can make a water heater leak:

    1. Loose connections and fittings on inlet and outlet pipes
    2. T&P valve leaks caused by overly high water supply pressure
    3. T&P valve problems due to excessively high thermostat settings
    4. Damaged, corroded or aging drain valve components
    5. Cracks or pinholes in walls of the water heater tank lining
    6. Exterior condensation resulting from inadequate tank insulation
    •  A small drip turns into a big leak that floods the room.
    • Over time, water heater leaks cause drywall damage.
    • Water dripping from the unit seeps into sub-floors and crawlspaces.
    • A water heater leaking from the relief valve compromises its safe operation.
    • Water leaking down the unit’s exterior shorts out electrical components.

    Mold Remediation

    12/30/2020 (Permalink)

Mold growth can cause issues from headaches and nasal congestions to rashes and respiratory problems.

The most common types of mold include aspergillus, cladosporium and stachybotrys atra (also known as black mold). Aspergillus is a fairly allergenic mold that is commonly found on foods and in home air conditioning systems. Mold around windows (or on them) is caused by the combination of moisture, poor ventilation, and residue.

Continuous rain creates wetness that lasts for days. Combine this with the poor ventilation system, and you get a recipe for ideal mold habitat. Poor ventilation also causes moisture to build up inside the window.

At the core of our mold remediation process is not only mold removal, but eliminating the source that is causing the mold. As part of our full assessment, we will put together a comprehensive plan for stopping mold growth, followed by a full cleanup and removal of the existing mold. Typical solutions to a mold problem include increased ventilation, exposure to sunlight, dehumidifiers and general cleanup. Depending on your individual situation, we will employ the method that is most applicable. After we have determined what is causing the mold and taken steps to fix it, we can then begin the cleanup process. In order for a mold remediation to be considered complete, all mold must be completely removed from the affected area. Due to its nature, mold spores can affect humans even when it is dead. Because of this, chemical treatments alone are not enough.

How Our Experts Cleanup After A Water Damage Incident In Your Grand Terrace Bathroom

    7/11/2019 (Permalink)

Even with substantial loss incidents where professional restoration like our team can provide is necessary, there are still ways that you can help.

Cleanup Of Water Damage In Your Grand Terrace Bathroom

Full bathrooms have set fixtures that make them a functioning element of Grand Terrace homes. When one of these elements malfunctions or breaks altogether, the result could be a substantial water loss incident. Even if you are present in the house when the emergency occurs, even a short timespan until the flow of water gets severed can be enough to compromise a significant area of your property. While widespread concerns are often best left to restoration professionals, there are steps that you can take that can ensure that this recovery is less costly and time-consuming.

No matter which fixture malfunctions to allow water damage in Grand Terrace bathrooms, homeowners must react quickly in any water loss situation to protect their house, its contents, and its occupants. There are several approaches that you can begin in the time it takes for our SERVPRO professionals to arrive with advanced mitigation tools and equipment:

    Shut Off The Water
Whether the fixture has an accessible shutoff or not, you have to get the flow of water to stop. If there is no valve you can use in the bathroom, you can head to where your service line enters the property to locate a shutoff point for the entire property.

    Protect Your Belongings
While many property owners do not necessarily load up their bathrooms with keepsakes and valuables, the spread of damage can affect adjoining rooms and put some of these valuables at risk. You can move these items to an area away from the spreading effects until restoration work completes.

    Keep A Distance
After the water flow has gotten shut down, keep your distance from this damaged area of your property as much as possible. You want the affected areas to be accessible to our SERVPRO team when we first arrive, so there are no delays in necessary mitigation efforts.

Even with substantial loss incidents where professional restoration like our SERVPRO of Colton / Loma Linda / Grand Terrace team can provide is necessary, there are still ways that you can help. Whenever disaster strikes, employ these strategies after you call (909) 514-1900.

Colton Home Needs Cleanup and Recovery from a Professional? Whom to Call? Why SERVPRO

SERVPRO Provides the Restoration Services You Deserve for Your Colton Home

Fast Response and Highly Qualified Technicians: Why SERVPRO Ranks Among Colton’s Leading Restoration Resources

Water, fire, mold, and storm damage are not everyday occurrences in Colton, but when your residence is in harm’s way, you need to react quickly to avoid long term consequences. A crisis in any of the categories has the potential to impact the physical integrity of your property negatively. Ignoring the damage also can raise safety and health issues. Successful mitigation and remediation depend on the efforts of well-prepared and certified disaster recovery projects managers and technicians.

    Water Damage
The most common water damage sources in Colton homes are failing plumbing and appliances that are breaking down. Cracked pipes, loose connections, worn out seals, and other signs of a problem are often hidden behind walls and under cabinets or exist deep in the workings of a machine. Homeowners cannot be faulted for missing early signs of a water loss, but it is unfortunate because the outcome of remediation attempts are most successful the earlier they occur.

Signals that you have a slow leak in the plumbing or an ailing appliance are varied depending on the situation. Experts recommend an evaluation by a professional, which is why SERVPRO can help if you note any of the following:

?    Your water bill takes an unexpected jump upwards.

?    Your water pressure reduces without another cause such as an appliance or hose running concurrently.

?    Your walls or ceilings develop staining or seem to bulge in certain areas.

?    Your home develops an unpleasant, musty odor.

?    Your rugs or carpeting have wet spots unrelated to spills or pet accidents.

    ?    You hear dripping.

?    You notice puddling under appliances or cabinets.

Our Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC)-accredited technicians are well-versed in the mysteries of hidden leaks. When we arrive to evaluate the situation, we bring sophisticated water and moisture detection devices to find the leak or leaks and map out the migration of water from the source. Thermal imaging locates hidden pockets of water, and moisture meters measure the level of absorbed water in structural components like drywall and framing. Familiarity with these tools is why SERVPRO shows superior results.

Once we find the leak and the associated water damage, our team helps arrange for the repair of the crack or break. Then our team uses a variety of best practices strategies to remove the water and dry out your home.

    Fire Damage
Many homeowners in Colton believe fire damage does not need professional mitigation and remediation if the blaze was small and extinguished quickly. Embarrassment, lack of time, and concern about the cost of and the disruption when a fire remediation team arrives guides the impulse to do a quick DIY clean up and hope the incident is in the past.

Unfortunately, the harm fire does in your home might not be limited to a small space where it began, and ordinary cleaning methods can make the damage worse. Fire residues are incredibly toxic and corrosive to surfaces and items, can affect air quality, and are not limited to what you can see. When materials combust the particles incompletely burned remain in your home as soot. Soot particles are tiny, much smaller than the bits of dust seen floating in the light -- soot averages 2.5 microns in size compared with 40 microns for household dust.

Airborne drift is why SERVPRO managers inspect your entire house to determine if soot particles migrated to other areas. Because soot settles on surfaces cooler than the fire you might think you have minimal damage because almost no residues are near the fire site. The spread of soot, especially if your HVAC system was working at the time of the fire, can be extensive.

Persistent odors signal that residues remain, and days or weeks after the fire building materials throughout your home can discolor and deteriorate. A professional evaluation followed by appropriate cleaning of residues and deodorization avoids long term issues and expenses after that “minor” fire.

    Mold Remediation
Homeowners in Colton battling mold damage might not realize that ordinary cleaning methods can make a microbial infestation worse. Mold spores settle on surfaces and drift through the air in every house, causing few problems until presented with a ready source of water. Ironically, the very tools we use to clean our home are almost always diluted with significant quantities of water, including chlorine bleach and other frequently used household disinfectants.

The color of the mold in the corner of your tiled shower lightens when cleaned, but returns persistently. Our highly-trained technicians know that grout cracks and loses its sealing ability, permitting water to pass through to the backer board and wall studs. The mold colonies need no light to multiply, and we often find large infestations in cavities between walls.

We rise to the challenge if this is the case in your bathroom, why SERVPRO is the company of choice for our satisfied customers. The protocol we employ was developed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Technicians use plastic barriers and a negative pressure air scrubbing system to contain the area and controlled demolition to access the moldy materials. Brushing, scraping, and gentle abrasion removes the mold and any porous structures irreparably infested. HEPA filter enhanced vacuuming and treatment with EPA-registered disinfectants and priming with an antimicrobial coating follow.

Our team helps arrange for rehabbing, stressing that grout and the joint between the tiles and the wall must be sealed and maintained. Running an exhaust fan and wiping the shower down regularly also help minimize the recurrence of mold damage.

    Storm Damage
Cleaning up after storms in Colton can include flooding or even mudslide abatement. The rain and winds strike quickly, and preparations, if completed, can only protect your home to a limited extent. Inches to feet of water in your lower levels need professional attention, even more so if runoff from the San Bernardino Mountains carries silt and other debris into your home.

Storm damage complexity is why SERVPRO is a full-service disaster recovery company with the resources to manage even catastrophic loss to your home after storm-related flooding. We respond to call 24/7 and can scale our response to the level of the damage each customer endures. Our team is IICRC-trained, and our equipment is durable, commercial quality, and state-of-the-art.

Innovative Strategies Save Business Records from Water Damage in Colton

Although the majority of your Colton office’s current paperwork might have a digital backup, a water loss can threaten the ruin of unscanned documents or historical records. Modern technology, as employed by our skilled team, can dry out books, blueprints, certificates, notes, photos, and many more paper-based records after a soaking. We welcome the chance to explain how resources we access can clean, dry, and disinfect items you believed water destroyed beyond recognition.

No matter how the water damage occurred in your Colton business, you survey a sorry-looking mess before remediation efforts begin. The floors, walls, and ceilings saturated by a plumbing leak or appliance malfunction can be dealt with on-site by our Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Reconstruction Certification (IICRC)-trained crew members. As we begin work inside your office, taking the time to pack up and move certain items to our production facility makes sense. Clearing the space of furnishings and storage allows our employees to remove the water and dry out the structure more efficiently. Hard copies of your business documents benefit from a pack-out where we use targeted strategies to save your paper trail. Our restoration flexibility is to your company’s benefit.

When paper suffers water damage is becomes fragile, risking the “bleeding” of inks and compression into a solid mass of cellulose rather than free-standing pages. SERVPRO recommends a freeze-drying procedure, first to halt the damage and stabilize the integrity of the papers with a significant temperature drop and then to remove the water. The process is called also called lyophilization or cryodesiccation.

After the papers freeze in a special chamber, pressure in the chamber lowers and then removes the ice by sublimation. Sublimation transitions water directly from its solid phase to vapor, without passing through the intermediate liquid phase. The vapor condenses outside of the chamber for disposal. SERVPRO technicians then store the documents, photos, and other items in a climate controlled area until your water damaged offices are ready for their return.

How To Restore Flooded Loma Linda Living Rooms

Sometimes water loss incidents and flooding can affect certain rooms or areas of your Loma Linda home more than others. While we have effective mitigation and recovery solutions for all of the effects that could result from widespread flooding scenarios, every situation is unique regarding what equipment, practices, and personnel are necessary to restore the damage. When flooding affects your living room area, certain tasks must happen right away to prevent the situation from getting out of control.

Flood damage that can affect your Loma Linda home can often arrive in layers of destructive effects that must get addressed in a particular order to protect as much of the property as possible. The saturation of flooring and carpeting materials can often be among the most challenging to address without ultimately needing to remove these materials altogether. Our SERVPRO professionals can work to begin extraction and drying of these damaged areas from the time that we first arrive, working around the clock to prevent unnecessary tear our and reconstruction.

Our contents department can work alongside our estimator to determine what items and personal belongings have gotten too affected by the flooding to remain. With our roster of qualified cleaning and restoration technicians with accreditations from the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC), we can offer focused cleaning, drying, and storage of these items in a climate-controlled facility of ours nearby.

Among the worst affected materials in a living room is carpeting. Floodwater can not only damage this upper layer but also penetrate subflooring and even structural supports. Weighted extractors can force moisture and saturation from these areas to get removed with a high-powered onboard vacuum. In cases of extreme saturation or where contamination could exist, we remove this flooring and subflooring, disinfect the area, and have our SERVPRO technicians reinstall new flooring in its place.

Flooding can be a damaging force in your home, and these effects only get worse the longer you wait for qualified restoration. Give our SERVPRO of Colton / Loma Linda / Grand Terrace team a call at (909) 514-1900 to make this loss incident “Like it never even happened.”

We Put The Flames Of Worry Out In Colton After A Fire Damage Disaster

    6/4/2019 (Permalink)

We were able to restore the belongings of this home to pre-damage condition using our state-of-the-art equipment and advanced cleaning techniques.

Cleaning Up Fire Damage in Colton Goes Beyond Debris Removal

Restoring fire damage involves significant levels of clean up to remove debris such as fully or partially burned materials. Cleaning also helps remove soot, and other smoke residues from walls and other surfaces. Although these activities may form the bulk of the cleanup exercise, other equally essential steps can help restore your home to its preloss state. We offer these services as part of our professional fire damage restoration services in Colton.

Most incidents of fire damage in Colton are controlled while still contained within a small section of the property such as the kitchen. This, however, does not mean that damages only remain in the affected sections. Smoke quickly filters into different rooms even where doors are shut leaving contents caked with residues. Our SEVRPRO crews take every step to clean up your contents. We even use specialized techniques such as ultrasonic cleaning to clean contents affected by fire damage.

Fires deposit residues on surfaces. However, in some cases, the residues penetrate beyond the surface of the affected material requiring specialized cleaning efforts and not just wiping or scrubbing the surface. Residue penetration depends on the type of affected material, its age and the temperatures involved in the fire because scorching temperatures open up pores in materials. Our SERVPRO technicians combine dry cleaning approaches such as vacuuming, and wet cleaning to dissolve residues embedded on surfaces.

Most residues left by fires have a pungent odor, which might remain even after removing the residue. Deodorizing properties affected by fires is, therefore, part of the cleanup process. Deodorization can help mask the odor or neutralize the odor particles. Neutralization is the best solution for lingering odor because masking it would only provide temporary relief. Our SERVPRO technicians rely on approaches like fogging which replicate the conditions that created the odor in the first place because they ensure that the deodorizing agent can penetrate as far as the odor particles eliminating the odor "Like it never even happened."

Fast Extraction is Necessary for Large Water Loss Incidents in Colton

    5/24/2019 (Permalink)

With large water loss incidents, we may need to remove carpeting to enable drying.

Extraction Solutions for Large Losses in Colton Homes

Water loss incidents can happen with little warning in Colton homes, and with the severity of damage that some of these situations can produce, addressing the effects must happen immediately to protect your property and its occupants. Our professionals have a 24/7 response to water damage emergencies, and we have a growing inventory of recovery equipment to begin effective mitigation with our arrival to start the process of returning your property to preloss condition.

We have multiple methods to begin water removal efforts in your Colton home. As many large loss incidents can come with several inches of standing water or widespread saturation of construction materials, extraction efforts must be where our mitigation efforts start. Our SERVPRO team arrives with multiple levels of removal tools that can address each level of severity that can exist in your property after a water loss incident.

With significant water loss incidents, we often rely on combining the efforts of several branches of our brand, its collective personnel, and a shared inventory of recovery tools and equipment. In this way, we can offer customers with larger properties the same efficient solutions after disasters that we can offer apartments and single-family homes. Extraction often begins with the highest concentration of water, and that means the use of our extractor truck or trash pump. Both of these options can remove standing water at a fast rate, some units up to 300 psi.

While these tools can help our SERVPRO professionals to address the highest volumes of pooling water, other tools like our portable submersible pumps and wet-vacs with extraction wands can help to remove lesser amounts with the same effectiveness.

Large loss scenarios can quickly get out of control without the appropriate intervention by trained and reputable restoration specialists like our SERVPRO of Colton / Loma Linda / Grand Terrace team. We have the expertise and the equipment to make all water loss effects “Like it never even happened.” Give us a call anytime that you need us at (909) 514-1900.

Don’t Let Your Laundry Room Spell Water Damage Trouble For Your Colton Home

SERVPRO of Colton / Loma Linda / Grand Terrace is available 24/7 at (909) 514-1900 to handle any size water damage in your home.

SERVPRO Handles Late Night Laundry Room Water Damage In Colton

It is normal to take precautions around your home to prevent water damage. Regular checking of plumbing for leaks and maintenance on appliances connected to supply lines are ways to help prevent large-scale water loss in your home.

SERVPRO was called late one evening to mitigate water damage in a Colton home due to a dog chewing a supply line in a laundry room. The homeowner said the water had been spewing in the room anywhere from one to five hours as he had come home at lunch to check on his dog, and there were no issues, but there was almost an inch of standing water when he arrived from work that evening.

Why SERVPRO? Our technicians have certifications in multiple areas of restoration sciences, including water damage restoration. We have the tools and expertise to restore a home to its preloss condition. We used portable extractors to remove the standing water left in the room. The homeowner had put down towels in an attempt to absorb the water, which we removed along with the soaked laundry room rugs for drying in another area of the home. We scoped the room and found elevated moisture in the wall cavity around the supply line in the wall behind the washing machine. The warped sheetrock could not be saved through drying and was cut away using flood cuts to let adequate air flow into the wall cavity.

In preparation for drying, the washer and dryer were placed on raised blocks to ensure they were dried underneath. Air movers quickly lowered the moisture levels in the wall cavity and the rest of the laundry room. SERVPRO techs took moisture readings before during and after the drying process to ensure the room meets drying goals. Standardly, we usually have a drying goal of around 45% or less humidity in the room. This action helps inhibit the growth of mold or development of odors. To finish the mitigation, we cleaned and disinfected the affected area.

SERVPRO of Colton / Loma Linda / Grand Terrace is available 24/7 at (909) 514-1900 to handle any size water damage in your home. We arrive within hours and have the training and equipment to make your water loss “Like it never even happened.”

SERVPRO of Colton / Loma Linda / Grand Terrace is just a phone call away from restoring your commercial facility to its preloss condition.

Professional Commercial Water Cleanup In A Colton Bistro

Is there anything more frustrating than when the dishwasher breaks? It can be infuriating enough to deal with at home, but when your commercial dishwasher malfunctions and leaves water all over the tile flooring of your bistro's kitchen, you need professionals who understand the ins and outs of commercial water cleanup to prevent mold and structural damage to your floor and subfloor.

If a dishwasher malfunction results in a kitchen needing commercial water cleanup in your Colton restaurant, certified SERVPRO technicians are ready to help. We can dry your kitchen while mitigating the risk of long-term water damage with industrial-grade equipment.

Before we can get to drying, water must be removed, and our team has the tools and methods to ensure thorough extraction. We can use wet/dry vacuums to sop up water and accurately measure moisture with a variety of tools and technologies: moisture sensors to probe porous surfaces like drywall, meters to evaluate surface moisture, and infrared imaging to detect the presence of water behind structures. Before, during, and after drying your flooring, we measure these levels until they are safe for you to get back to business.

After the water has been removed, our SERVPRO professionals can get to drying surfaces with a combination of industrial-grade air movers and dehumidifiers. As moisture declines, we can set up polyethylene chambers to accelerate drying in isolated areas. While air movers pull moisture up and away from surfaces, dehumidifiers catch this moist air and expel warm, dry air. Desiccant dehumidifiers can pass this moist air over desiccant material such as silica gel and isolate water into collection trays. After drying, we can give your moisture-affected services a thorough cleaning with an EPA-registered antimicrobial to prevent the onset of mold.

Secondary Issues Resulting From Flooding in Colton

    4/26/2019 (Permalink)

Flooding causes not only water damage, but also mold damage if not remediated quickly.

When Flood Damage is Not the Only Problem in a Colton Home

Imagine you were on vacation, flood damage to your home might be the furthermost thing from your mind. You have someone checking on the house, making sure Alexa turns the lights off and on and the home security system is on. What could go wrong?

Sunny weather prevails in Colton, but flood damage is a real threat from the intense storms this area experiences. A homeowner contacted SERVPRO after returning home late one night from several days away to a strong odor when he entered his home and found the cause. During storm days earlier, a tree limb had broken a window and rain had poured into a downstairs bedroom window.

SERVPRO arrived quickly after the call and immediately tarped over the hole in the window to stop any further damage from happening. Because the water had been sitting in the room for at last 48 hours, we treated it as a Category 3, black water situation which means the water could now contain bacteria or toxins that are hazardous.

We removed area rugs that had absorbed the rainwater were a large part of the odor in the room for cleaning and disinfection in our facility. The mattress was a loss and with the homeowner's permission was removed. The steel bedframe was unaffected as was the tile flooring and subfloor. Moisture detectors showed the moisture on the surface of the wall and elevated levels throughout the room.

Before drying, SERVPRO techs determine drying goals based on other readings in affected areas of the home. Air movers were set up to direct the moisture up where it captured by our desiccant dehumidifiers. Once we confirmed the bedroom as hitting drying goals, our technicians cleaned and disinfected all affected surfaces to ensure the room was sanitary which also neutralized the residual odor remaining in the room. The homeowner was pleased to find out our location offers building services, and after remediation of the water damage, we could also perform the necessary repairs on the window.

SERVPRO of Colton / Loma Linda / Grand Terrace is available at (909) 514-1900 when you need us. Our certified technicians arrive within hours and can handle any size flood damage situation and make it "Like it never even happened."

Our Certified Professionals Have The Expertise To Handle Fire Damage In Colton

    4/18/2019 (Permalink)

When you have a fire in your home you can be confident in SERVPRO to handle your restoration needs. We are available 24/7 so don't hesitate and call.

Why Professional Fire Damage Remediation is Crucial in Colton

The aftermath of a fire in Colton leaves your home in a chaotic condition, perhaps making you feel as though you and your family cannot live there again. Our fire remediation experts have training, experience, and equipment that is up to the challenge of bringing your devastated home back to preloss condition. We work with your insurance company to make sure the work we do for your property is covered under your policy, both for contents and structural components.

Water remediation is one part of the fire damage recovery process for your Colton home that might surprise you. Firefighters do not stint on the use of water and chemical extinguishing agents as they work to save your dwelling. Water damage can be extensive. Our crew members are undaunted as this phase of the remediation is expected, and our employees hold multiple certifications in disaster restoration from the IICRC.

SERVPRO work crews arrive in fully-stocked vehicles, commercial strength pumps and water extractors ready for water removal. We also have air movers, heaters, and dehumidifiers, drying equipment that prevents moisture from causing more harm and inhibits potential mold growth.

As the water remediation proceeds, SERVPRO crew leads are planning for soot and smoke cleanup. Residues from a fire are incredibly toxic and corrosive, and the methods we use to remove them vary depending on the types of materials combusted as the fire moved through your home. Paper and wood leave a light, ashy debris we dry sponge and vacuum. Electrical and fabric fires smolder, depositing thick, sticky soot requiring agitation or abrasive action along with cleaners that contain wetting agents and surfactants that loosen the soot.

Protein-based soot from kitchen and grease fires leave a thin, highly odiferous coating that clings like lacquer or varnish. Specialized cleaning solvents safely used by our experts remove these residues. SERVPRO also attends to the strong smells associated with fire damage, working through a protocol that starts with discarding charred objects and deep cleaning, working through other strategies including advanced technological equipment like thermal foggers, ozone machines, and hydroxyl generators.

Your first call after the firefighters leave should be SERVPRO of Colton / Loma Linda / Grand Terrace. We have the skills, equipment, and proven methods to make your fire-damaged home “Like it never even happened.” Contact us at (909) 514-1900 for round the clock assistance.

What To Expect From Professional Water Damage Restoration In Colton

Homeowners in Colton might be surprised to know how many different ways water can harm their dwellings. Water is a necessity for humans, pets, and plants, and helps accomplish a vast number of tasks inside our homes. When it becomes uncontained, however, water can cause severe problems. Deterioration of building materials and contents follow water incursions swiftly. Professional water loss mitigation halts the destruction and prepares your home for restoration.

Waiting for natural draining and drying is a mistake a property owner cannot make with water damage in Colton. If moisture lingers for more than 24 to 48 hours, tiny spores absorb the water and begin their growth cycle into ever-expanding mold colonies. Molds join the water in destroying structural components such as drywall, insulation, wood, and more. Our expert team of managers and technicians assesses the damage and begins the water removal and structural drying that prevents further harm and limits or avoids microbial growth.

We secure the scene, ensuring additional water intrusion stops. Standing water exits via pumps and wanded extractors. Our team holds multiple certifications from the IICRC, including vital training in moisture metering and scanning for hidden pockets of water. We release water trapped behind walls using industry best practices and use baseline moisture readings in structural components to establish a drying plan.

Our service vehicles hold all the equipment needed for water mitigation, allowing us to transition to drying without missing a beat. Air movers, heaters, and dehumidifiers roll off our trucks as we store the pumps and extractors. SERVPRO technicians position the drying equipment most optimally to pull moisture out of the porous building materials. Specialized equipment like floor drying mats attends to the challenges of suctioning moisture out of several layers to prevent distortion of the materials as they swell after water absorption.

SERVPRO of Colton / Loma Linda / Grand Terrace has the trained technicians, experience, and equipment necessary to manage any water damage scenario fast. Contact us at (909) 514-1900 for assistance with your water emergency 24/7.
